Inside Rotherhithe Tube Station

Due to the extension of the East London line, and the consequent use of longer trains, it was thought that Rotherhithe station might have had to have closed when the line was extended; however on 16 August 2004 the Mayor of London announced that the station will stay open [1].

There is a commemorative plaque to Brunel's achievement of digging the tunnel under the Thames that leads to Wapping.
