Rokia Traoré
Rokia Traoré is a Malian singer.
She is undoubtedly one of the greatest talents of West African music. Her gentle, tempting voice stands in strident contrast with the powerful sound of the other Malian griot-divas.
Her first album Mouneissa (Label Bleu) from 1998 was acclaimed for its fresh treatment and unqualifiable combinations of several Malian music traditions. Nobody had used the ngoni and the balafon together this way before. In 2000, her second album Wanita was released. By several music illustrated magazines it was exclaimed as the best album and the best World album of the year.
