Roger Scott

Born in the UK in 1943, Former sea merchant, Roger Scott began his broadcasting career at WPTR, Albany, NY, USA, in April 1966. A year later, he headed north and presented a daily show on CFOX, Montreal in Canada.

1971 saw Roger return to the UK after hearing of plans to introduce commercial radio. Roger took a job at UBN, the in-house radio service run by United Biscuits for its factory workforce, before becoming one of the original line-up on London's Capital Radio, when it was launched in October 1973.

Roger stayed here for 15 years presentin a daily afternoon show as well as the highly popular Friday evening Rock and Roll show 'Cruisin', which featured interviews with many of the top artistes of the genre.

Roger joined BBC Radio 1 in June 1988, presenting Saturday afternoon's 'Stereo Sequence' 2–7.30pm show, before moving to a late night show on Sundays entitled 'Scott on Sunday' 11pm-2am, which mainly featured Adult orientated Rock music.

A little known fact, is that Roger first appeared on Radio 1 back in 1973 under the name of Bob Baker, before he began his full time work on Capital. Bob Baker was one of Roger's colleages at CFOX.

Roger's last Radio 1 show was on Sunday 8th October 1989 & he died on 31st of that month having suffered from Cancer. He was 46.

A tribute programme on Roger's life was broadcast on Radio 1 on 4th November 1989, which was recorded a few weeks before his death.
