Roger Lapham
Roger Dearborn Lapham (6 December 1883 – 16 April 1966) was a shipowner and businessman who was elected Republican mayor of San Francisco from 1944 to 1948. He was born in New York City.
An attempt to recall him from office in 1946 failed. In 1947 he attempted to scrap the city's cable car system, claiming it was too expensive. This idea was abandoned in the face of protests and the city retains the cable cars to this day.
He was the grandfather of Harper's Magazine editor Lewis H. Lapham.
