Robert Wright (politician)

Robert Wright (b. November 20, 1752; d. September 7, 1826) was an American politician. He served in the Maryland State Senate and Maryland House of Delegates until he was elected to the U.S. Senate from Maryland in 1801. In 1806, he resigned his senate seat to assume the position of Governor of Maryland, and served as governor until 1809. He later served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1810 to 1817 and again from 1821 to 1823. He was district judge of the lower Eastern Shore district of Maryland from 1823 until his death in 1826.
