River John, Nova Scotia

River John is a small village on the north shore of Nova Scotia, Canada, half way between Pictou and Tatamagouche. First settled in the eighteenth century, its location on the Northumberland Strait and proximity to a plentiful timber supply led to the development of a shipbuilding industry. Today its economy is largely based on fishing, agriculture, and tourism. Its local shops, library, school, post office and firehall service a wider rural population.
