Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University
Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (or APU) is a private institution inaugurated in April 2000 in Oita, Japan. The ethos of APU are: "Freedom, Peace, and Humanism, International Mutual Understanding and the Creation of the Future of the Asia Pacific."
As of fall 2004, APU has an enrollment of 4,140. Approximately half of the students and faculty members come from outside Japan: over 70 countries and regions. Situated on an expansive campus (about 42 ha) in suburban Beppu, Oita Prefecture, APU has the good command of almost the entire city of Beppu with about 125,000 people.
One of the remarkable features of APU is its bilingual educational system in multilingual learning environment; it offers dual language education in English and Japanese.
In 2004, APU was selected as a "Good Practice" university by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Science and Culture.
