Risk Management Chairman
Risk Management Chairman, also known as Social Chairman, is an Executive position among Fraternities and Sororities of the Greek system. Within the organization, the Risk Management Chairman is a member of the Executive Board. Members of the Executive Board are elected by members of the organization on a yearly basis. Once elected, the Risk Management Chairman is granted voting privileges on house issues brought before the Board. Therefore, the Risk Management Chairman is an integral part in determining the future of the Greek organization.
The Risk Management Chairman is also responsible for educating chapter members about campus guidelines and procedures regarding risk management. It is the duty of the Risk Management Chairman to register all social events involving alcohol with the appropriate College authorities. During these events, the Risk Management Chairman must remain sober and ensure that the alcohol is consumed by persons of legal age and in a responsible manner.
Since social events on college campuses in the United States often involve Fraternities and Sororities, the Risk Management Chairman has the responsibility of creating a vibrant social atmosphere while complying with campus regulations. Should there be a violation of the campus' risk management policy, the Risk Management Chairman is subject to sanctions imposed by both the College as well as the Greek organization itself. A responsible Risk Management Chairman must balance the interest of the organization with the risk management regulations of the College.
