Rift valley
In geology, a rift valley is a valley created by the formation of a rift. The Great Rift Valley is the most famous of the world's rift valleys. However, rift valleys appear as a result of a fault, or vertical Earth movements. A rift valley is caused by seafloor spreading. There is a mountain chain that gets ripped apart and causes a separation, forming a rift valley in between.
