Returners

A fictional group of freedom fighters from the Squaresoft video game Final Fantasy VI. This rebel organization is led by a man named Banon and based just north of the Mt. Kolts.

As the primary resistance movement against the Gestahl Empire, the first half of the game (events in The World of Balance) revolves heavily around the Returners' attempts to curb the Empire's increasing power. They ultimately seek to do so by enlisting the aid of Espers, but soon learn — after the Espers go berserk and decimate the Imperial capital of Vector — that magic is too unstable a power to be harnessed. Unfortunately, the Empire (and especially Kefka) do not reach this same conclusion.

The Returners as an organization no longer exist in The World of Ruin, as the Empire no longer exists, but most of the playable characters in FFVI are often referred to collectively as "Returners." (This is similar to Final Fantasy VII's characters being categorized as AVALANCHE members.)
