Returner

"Re-Turner" (RETURNER) is a 2002 live action Japanese movie, directed by Takashi Yamasaki and starring Takeshi Kaneshiro.

This second outing by the director Takashi Yamasaki utilizes a fair number of computer generated visual effects showing bullet time, mecha and transformer-style alien ships. As happens often in Japanese movies, it has a bit of a noir style, but it is largely a mix of other movies — a bit of a The Terminator, E.T., The Matrix, Independence Day medley with an extra dose of gangster violence. This movie continues the progression that includes Casshern coming out of Japan since the release of the The Matrix that some North American viewers with insights into Japanese or Asian cinema in general would be happy to see, despite it appearing to be a derivative work.
