Republic Aviation Company

The Republic Aviation Company was an American aircraft manufacturer. It was founded by Alexander de Seversky as the Seversky Aircraft Corporation in 1931, but did not make a profit under his management. He was forced out in 1939 and the company was reorganized as the Republic Aviation Company.

Before and during World War II they manufactured such important aircraft as the P-47 Thunderbolt – shown in the 1943 advertisement on the right – and afterwards the F-84 Thunderjet.

The company was acquired by Fairchild in 1965.
