Reino Aventura

Reino Aventura (Spanish: "Adventure Kingdom") was an amusement park located in Tlalpan in the south-eastern part of Mexico City. It was opened to the public in March 1982 and at the time it was the biggest amusement park in Latin America.

During the year 1992 the park was closed to the public to undergo major reconstruction and further improvements. Keiko, the whale that played the lead role in the motion picture Free Willy a year after, was one of the attractions that was brought to improve the park during this reconstruction. On July 3, 1992 the park was reopened to the public under the new name "El Nuevo Reino Aventura" ("The New Adventure Kingdom"). In 1995 the park changed management and the name was also changed back to the original. Also in this year it was announced that Keiko was leaving the amusement park to a new home in Oregon, USA. Thousands and thousands of people gathered at the amusement park just to say goodbye to the whale which finally left for the Oregon Coast Aquarium on January 7, 1996. A whole era in the amusement park had finished that day.

March 1999 was the month that Premier Parks, the holding for all the Six Flags theme parks, announced that they had bought Reino Aventura. That same year, now renamed Six Flags México, the park underwent a major reconstruction for an amount near to USD $40 million and was reopened to the public on April 14, 2000.
