Red-Haired Shanks

Red-Haired Shanks is a fictional character in the One Piece manga and anime. He's the captain of the Red Hair Pirate Crew and Monkey D. Luffy's childhood hero.

When Luffy was young, his ship anchored at Luffy's Village and Luffy instantly made friends with him. Luffy wanted Shanks to bring him out to sea as a pirate but Shanks refused. Through a series of events, he saved Luffy from a Sea King and lost an arm. He left his Straw Hat with Luffy and made Luffy promise that Luffy would return the hat to him one day when he has become a great pirate.

Shank's pirate group is believed to be one of the strongest groups in the story, as they are under constant surveilence from the government who regard them as dangerous as the 'White Beard' (one of their 'new recruits', 'The Rock' (as in japanese manga) was worth 97million berries on the government hit list.)

He is voiced by Shuuichi Ikeda in the original Japanese version.
