Reach for the stars

Reach for the Stars is one of the earliest of the '3E' computer games (Explore, Expand, Exterminate). Written by SSI of Australia for the 65xx series Motorola processors (versions 1 and 2 ran on the Apple II and Commodore C64 computers only), Version 3 also ran under PC-DOS (for IBM-XT compatible computers). It was an extremely addictive game. While by today's standards the graphics were horrible, the most important part was the game play, which featured a couple of really nasty AI (if you every play WATCH out for Killer Keating) named after the authors of the game.

The game was re-written for the Windows platform in the early 21st century, however the new version was a failure – the new graphical interface detracted from the intense gameplay that made Reach for the Stars a gaming classic.

Other games of this type include Stars!.
