Re:combo

We believe in the possibility of artists creating music, art, and films in a collaborative way, open and free.

Re:combo website

Re:combo is a Brazilian-based but now worldwide collective of musicians, software engineers, DJs, professors, journalists and computer geeks, who combine live events, peer-to-peer networking, and music resampling as their medium. as a basic concept, the Translocation is presented, term created by Tetsuo Kogawa, to define a relation we focus to the “local” (instead of the global), thinking at the same time as its propagation through the net: “Think locally, act globally” With the intention of expanding the spectrum of creative and free works serving as a basis for new artistic creations ("remakes" or "remixes"), the Creative Commons group, now based at Stanford Law School, has published one of the most relevant works among licenses that aim to guarantee the free use of cultural products. During the Annual Software Livre (2004) conference in Porto Alegre, the organization spoke out a homage to Re:combo´s pioneering spirit by naming the new Creative Commons license for Remixes of Songs after the artist collective , "Creative Commons Recombo 1.0". Keeping in mind the benefits of processes that allow us to apply the desired intellectual generosity, it is clear to see what the homage spoken out by Creative Commons means to us; It is a great honour for the collective to give name to a license that opens up many possibilities to recombine, remake and remix, and that strengthens discourse and action against wrong and predacious use of copyright.
