Raúl Chávez

Raúl Alexander Chávez (born March 18, 1973 in Valencia, Carabobo State, Venezuela) is a Major League Baseball catcher who plays with the Houston Astros (2000, 2002–04). Previously, Chávez played for the Montreal Expos (1996–97) and Seattle Mariners (1998) He bats and throws right-handed.

Chávez is a good defensive catcher and his arm is both strong and very accurate. He also calls a good game and blocks balls in the dirt well. In his role as a backup, he have had limited success as a hitter.

In a seven-year career, Chávez is a .230 hitter with two home runs and 34 RBI in 117 games.
