Raul Azcárraga Vidaurreta

Raul Azcárraga Vidaurreta, on February 1923, started transmitting trial radio signals from his bussiness office located in Avenida Juárez número 62 in Mexico City with a 50 watt transmiter. After the success of the transmissions, El Universal and Raul Azcarraga made an agreement to jointly operate the radio station.

The 8th of may of the same year, the state run newspapers issued the following statement: "As the big American newspapers do, El Universal is now using a powerfull radiostation to broadcast it's news. It is located in the heart of the republic."

The initial broadcast begins at 20:00 on the 8th of May. This venture would eventually provide the capital for the radio station that would shape Mexican communications for years to come, XEW, owned by Raul Azcárraga Vidaurreta and later passed on to Emilio Azcarraga Vidaurreta, his brother, who would in time set his own legacy by starting Televisa
