Rah
Rahs is a derogatory term used in British society. It refers to a subculture stereotyped as being overly posh, in particular their accent (technically known as the received pronounciation). They consider themselves superior, generally due to having more money than the average person or a more "cultured" upbringing. Typical characteristics include a posh accent, public school education, tendency to talk with their friends about financial matters, and also using more obscure language when talking to those they suspect to be "commoners".
Key Concepts
This stereotype is defined by outsiders, no one within this group would identify themselves as such.
The key characteristics are:
- The wearing of plaid jackets and trousers.
- A prentence of being morally righteous and cultured.
- Giving the impression of being financially well off by flamboyant displays of luxurious items of extravagant brands.
- Enjoy "middle-upper class" activities (such as afternoon high tea, a stroll in the park and lawn bowling).
The apprearance of being a rah can be summarised as originating from the excessive vanity of the subject.
