Rachel Portman

Rachel Portman (born 11 December, 1960, Halsmere, England) is a British composer, best known for her film work. She was the first woman composer to win an Academy Award (for Emma, 1996). She later received praise for her score to the 1999 movie The Cider House Rules. She was educated at Oxford University.
