Raccoon City

Raccoon City is a fictional metropolis depicted in the survival horror series Resident Evil by Capcom. Raccoon City is based upon a typical everyday industrial and commercial mid-western American city but in a generically fabricated kind of way. It is mostly controlled by the Umbrella Corporation and located next to a vast mountain landscape covered by forest, known as the Arklay Foothills.

In the gaming series, Raccoon City was a huge metropolis that was very busy and has a strong local community. But underneath the city is a vast complex known as the Hive, that is funded by the Umbrella Corporation that does illegal research such as viral weaponry, genetic experimentation, and military technology. One day, in the Hive, the t-Virus was released, and the supercomputer in charge trapped and killed all 500 workers inside. But the T Virus reanimates dead cells, so basically, they all came back to life as zombies. A elite team of Umbrella Corporation was sent there to retrieve information to see what happenned there by entering through the Spencer Mansion in the outskirts of Raccon City. Only two people came back alive from the hive, Alice and Matt Addisson. But they were seized by Umbrella Members and taken to the Raccoon City Hospital for experimentatation. The next day, the Umbrella Corporation sent again members to see what happenned in there by entering through the main entrance in Raccoon City,but to their fatal misfortune where they let the zombies and experiments out accidentally and in no time, Raccoon City became the City of the Dead and mostly all the citizens in the city became zombies.

At first Umbrella closed all main entrances to the city except the Raven's Gate bridge, and there many of the citizens that wanted to escape had to pass through a mdeical screening and if they passed it, they were allowed to leave the city, but when a infected man reached the gates, Umbrella closed the exit, and condemmed the remaing thousands of citizens to their deaths. And since Umbrella had no way of containing the incident, they removed all of this by detonating a nuclear weapon over the City Hall in Raccoon City, and all traces of the virus and it's victims were obliterated. The only things left were the frames and ruins of strong buildings and a few skyscrapers. Umbrella covered up the incident by blaming it on the Raccoon City Nuclear Power Plant, citing a meltdown.

Raccoon Forest streches into the Arklay Mountains and surrounds the majority of Raccoon City. This is where both the training facility (RE0), and Spencer Mansion are located.
