R. W. Apple, Jr.

Raymond Walter Apple, Jr. (1934–), known to all as "Johnny" but bylined as R.W. Apple, is an associate editor at the New York Times, where he writes on a variety of subjects, most notably travel and food. Until 1997, he was the Times's Washington bureau chief, and before that a war, political, and European correspondent. He is twice married, currently to Betsey Pinckney.

Apple grew up in Akron, Ohio.
