R.C. Lahoti

Ramesh Chandra Lahoti (born November 1, 1940) is the incumbent Chief Justice of India.

Lahoti joined the Bar in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh in 1960 and enrolled as an Advocate in 1962. In April, 1977, he was recruited directly from the Bar to the State Higher Judicial Service and was appointed as a District & Sessions Judge. After functioning as a District & Sessions Judge for a year, he resigned in May 1978 and reverted to the Bar for practice mainly in the High Court. He was appointed Additional Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 1988 and later made permanent Judge. He was transferred to Delhi High Court on in 1994 and appointed as a Judge of Supreme Court of India in December 1998.

He was appointed as Chief Justice of Supreme Court Of India on the July 1, 2004. He is due to retire on November 1, 2005.
