Quebradillas, Puerto Rico

Quebradillas, called "La Guarida del Pirata" or "La Ciudad del Cooperativismo", Quebradillas was founded in 1823 by Felipe Ruiz. It derives its name to the large amount of streams in the town. Patron saint is Saint Raphael Archangel.,with feast on the month of august.

Quebradillas is home of one of the 20 designated forest reserves in Puerto Rico. The Guajataca State Forest is an example of Puerto Rico's more unusual topography. Karst country, as it is known, is characterized by haystack-shaped hills and sinkholes. Over 40 walking trails, 25 miles of maintained footpaths are through the karst region.

Northwest of Quebradillas lies beautiful Guajataca Beach, with its white sands, wild and deep waters. The beach is often used for tanning and collecting shells. Quebradillas also has Guajataca Lake ("Lago Guajataca"), a man-made lake (2.5 mi/4 km long) that is used for hiking and big mouth bass fishing. Peacock bass and bluegill also found.

Quebradillas is also home of the legendary basketball team Piratas de Quebradillas.
