Queanbeyan Age

The Queanbeyan Age was started in 1860 as a newspaper to service the needs of Queanbeyan, which at the time was a small township on the banks of the Molonglo River.

The "Golden Age", as it was known at the time, was Queanbeyan's first newspaper and was founded by John Gale. It was named the "Golden Age" presumably because of the very small gold rush in and around Queanbeyan during the 1850's.

These days, the Queanbeyan Age publishes twice a week, on Tuesday and Friday. It has a readership of approximately 10,000, or about a quarter of the population of the city.

It survives with only three reporters – one for sport, and two for all other news, one of these being the editor.

It also has approximately 4 or 5 people who work on classifieds and advertising.

The Queanbeyan Age has a close relationship with the Canberra Times, and relies on it for it's printing presses in order to create the publication.

The Age has also been available on the Internet since about 2000.
