Quasam

Quasam is a name trademarked by Atomic Scale Design, for a broad family of nanocomposite materials that are composed of thin sheets of carbon atoms, known as graphene.

In the future, Quasam may be tailored to provide a wide range of characteristics that are useful for different applications, such as; wear-resistant medical prostheses, de-icing coating for aircraft wings, antiallergenic coatings to prevent reaction to silver or metal earrings, impermeable but flexible gas barrier coatings, and better low-k dielectric materials for semiconductor devices. Quasam may also be used as a type of "smart skin", which would be able to measure stress and detect structural damage. A coating like this could be used on aircraft wings, oil pipelines or in space shuttles to detect stress that could lead to failure.
