Pratt & Whitney F119-PW-100

(Redirected from Pratt & Whitney F119)

The F119-PW-100 is an afterburning turbofan engine developed for the F-22 advanced tactical fighter by Pratt & Whitney.

The engine delivers a thrust of approximately 35,000 lbf (156 kN) and is designed for supersonic flight without afterburner (supercruise). Delivering almost 22% more thrust with 40% fewer parts than conventional, fourth-generation military aircraft engine models, the F119 allows sustained supercruise speeds of up to Mach 1.4. The convergent/divergent thrust nozzle incorporates thrust vectoring, which gives the F-22 excellent maneuverability. Similar performance has been achieved by modern Russian aircraft such as the MiG-35.

The Pratt & Whitney F135, which powers the Lockheed Martin F-35, is a derivative engine of the F119.
