Kenitra

Kenitra is a city of Morocco, formerly known as Port Lyautey. It is a port on the Sebou River.

It was established in 1912 as a French military fort, harbor and town. It was renamed Kenitra in 1956 when Morocco gained independence. Kenitra is also the hometown of Olympic athlete Said Aouita.

Etymology

Kenitra means bridge in the Arabic language.
