Platter lift
A platter lift, or just platter, is a mechanised system for pulling skiers uphill. In Europe the lift is known as button lift or Poma lift (after the company [1] who first made them, although they now make a wide range of other lifts).
The lift consists an aerial steel rope loop running over a series of wheels, powered by an engine at the upper end. Hanging from the rope overhead are equally-spaced vertical cables attached to a plastic button or platter that is placed between the skiers legs and pulls the skier uphill. Snowboarders would place the platter under their arms and be pulled uphill this way.
