Pokémon XD
Pokémon XD (tentative title) is an upcoming role-playing game from Nintendo's Pokémon franchise for the Nintendo GameCube. It is the successor of the GameCube game Pokémon Colosseum. The Japanese version's title has been revealed as Pokémon XD: Dark Winds, Dark Lugia. The "XD" is said to an acronym of "eXtra Dimension", because this game is in 3 dimensions (3D) as opposed to the 2 dimensions (2D) of most other Pokémon RPGs.
Nintendo of America executive Reginald Fils-Aime revealed in an interview with gaming website IGN in March 2005 that Pokémon XD would have gameplay similar to the Game Boy Advance RPGs Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, much to the delight of fans dissappointed with other Pokémon titles on Nintendo 64 and Nintendo GameCube. Here is the excerpt from the article:
- IGNcube: Finally, what is Pokemon XD?
- Reggie: Pokemon XD is a brand new Pokemon game for GameCube. It's a true RPG Pokemon. It's isn't a sequel to Colosseum. It's a brand new build. A brand new game that really plays off the RPG aspects. So think of it this way. If you loved Ruby and Sapphire, you're going to love Pokemon XD for GameCube.
Japanese gaming magazines Famitsu and CoroCoro Comic have shown screenshots and information that revealed that this game will have 3D graphics similar to those of its predecessor, Pokémon Colosseum. It was also revealed that the game will continue the inclusion of Shadow Pokémon and snagging from Colosseum. A dark-colored Shadow Lugia is said to play a large part in the story. The player starts with a level 5 Eevee this time, and levels progress more closely to the Game Boy RPG's. Some 4th generation Pokémon also make an appearance, such as Munchlax, however it is unknown whether they will be snaggable. More details are expected to be revealed at E3 2005.
