Petrobras (Petróleo Brasileiro S/A) is a brazilian state owned (there are also minority private shareholders) oil company. Its headquarters are located in Rio de Janeiro. The company was founded in 1953 mainly due to the efforts of Getúlio Vargas (President of Brazil).
