Papilla

(Redirected from Papillae)

A papilla (plural: papillae) can be:

  1. A small projection, such as a nipplelike projection on the skin, at the base of a hair or the root of a feather; the base of a new tooth.
  2. An interdental papilla is the part of gingiva located between teeth.
  3. Any of the small projections on the top of the tongue, in particular vallate and fungiform papillae, which contain taste buds.
  4. A pimple or blister.
