Paint.NET

Paint.NET is a project developed at Washington State University and mentored by Microsoft. It is a free graphics editing program for use on Windows XP and 2000 based operating systems, with the source freely available for download. It is programmed in C# and is released under the open source MIT License. Paint.NET is the unofficial successor to the older Microsoft Paint graphics program.

History

Paint.NET originated as a Computer Science senior design project during Spring 2004 at Washington State University. It continued over the summer and into the Fall 2004 semester for both the version 1.1 and 2.0 releases. Development continues with the two primary developers now working at Microsoft.
