The Seal of Orichalcos
When the mysterious, mystical stone known as the Orichalcos rained down upon the ancient kingdom of Atlantis 10,000 years ago, it's power turned man into beast, and tainted the mind of the kingdom's ruler, Dartz. In the present day, Dartz seeks to revive the Orichalcos God, the Great Leviathan, through the power of human souls, collected through the power of the Orichalos, which he infuses into Duel Monster cards to create the card known as the "Seal of Orichalcos".
The official game's effect of the Seal of Orichalcos is unknown right now, but in the animated series, it's effects include:
- The monsters on the owner's side of the field will increase their attack by 500 and become of Darkness as well as keep their own attributes.
- The owner can now play monsters in his/her spell and trap slots (essentially, doubling the number of monsters that can be on the owner's side of the field).
- The monsters in the spell and trap slots cannot be attacked unless the monsters in the monster slots are destroyed.
- Neither player can leave the duel, and no other player can enter the field (unless the person wishing to break the seal possesses a fragment of the Orichalcos Stone, which can break this enchantment).
- The losing player's soul is extracted from his living body to be served as nourishment for the Great Leviathan. Though there are few exceptions like when the darkness within the heart of the duelist who played the card has vanished, it hinders the consqence until that darkness resurfaces later under any condition.
- This card shall not be destroyed by any force except the three legendary knights (Timaeus, Critias, and Helmos(Hermos in the dub)) or by the shards of the Orichalcos stone.
The Other Seals of Orichalcos
There are also two other seals of Orichalcos: Orichalcos Deuteros and Orichalcos Tritos.
Orichalcos Deuteros(Second Seal of Orichalcos):
- Orichalcos Deuteros can only be played if the Seal of Orichalcos is in play.
- At each of your main phases, you gain 500 life points for every monster on your side of the field.
- When an opponent direct damages to your life points, sacrifice 1 monster on your side of the field and negate all damage.
Orichalcos Tritos(Third Seal of Orichalcos):
- Orichalcos Tritos can only be played if both the Seal of Orichalcos and Orichalcos Deuterosu are in play.
- You may negate the effect of trap and spell cards that target your monsters.
In the Doma Arc of Yu-Gi-Oh!, after Yugi Moto (Yugi Mutou in the manga version and Japanese version), Joey Wheeler (Katsuya Jonouchi in the manga and Japanese anime), and Seto Kaiba defeat Rafeal, Valon (Varon in the Japanese version), and Alister (Amelda in the Japanese version) respectively, Yugi and Kaiba team together to face Dartz. Joey's soul was taken away by Mai Valentine (Mai Kujaku in the manga and the Japanese version), who started another duel after Joey defeats Valon.
Unless one possesses the three legendary dragons and Legend of Heart, it is impossible to defeat the three Seals of Orichalcos.
The Origin of Orichalcos
Orichalcos is another word for Orichalcum, a miracle metal used in Atlantis. Orichalcos is referred to as a miracle substance during the anime, giving it obvious ties to Orichalcum.
If the letters in the word Orichalcos are rearranged and separated to form to words in the right order, the words cirlo and chaos are seen. Then the conclusion of the definition of the word can mean "Circle of Chaos."
