Organists

Those who play the organ, whether pipe or electronic. We have a national organisation called the American Guild of Organists (AGO). Organists come in two main varieties, church and concert. Church organists typically accompany a Church's congregation and/or choir in song at worship times. As church repertoire is typically easier, more organists are in this category. Concert organists perform concert repertoire at venues, usually solo, and sometimes with an orchestra. Concert repertoire is considerably more difficult. Almost all concert organists play in church, as well Concert repertiore typically involves a large organ, usually of the symphonic organ variety. Fine concert organists of today include: Ken Cowan, John Weaver, Daniel Roth, Diane Bish, Thomas Murray, Cherry Rhodes, and Frederick Hohman. Composers such as: Johann Sebastian Bach, Marcel Dupré, Maurice Duruflé, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck have composed for organ. Arguably the best organist of all time is Virgil Fox, which is cheifly argued by the fans of E. Power Biggs. Virgil most likely brought the most interest to organ ever.
