Oppenheimer-Phillips process

The Oppenheimer-Phillips process or strip reaction is a special type of nuclear reaction.

In this reaction a nucleus reacts with the neutron of a deuterium core but the proton does not take part in the reaction. In this way reactions with deuterons are possible that would otherwiese lack the energy to overcome the Coulomb barrier.

An example is

12C(d,p)13C.
