Obj

The text-based .obj geometry definition file format was first developed by Silicon_Graphics for its WaveFront 3D animation package. Because its format was open, it was easily adopted by other 3D graphics application vendors, including Curious_Labs_Poser. It can describe individual objects and their surface characteristics, or entire scenes including animation sequences. This versatility (easy to parse, easy to export) has led to it often being used as an exchange format by many applications much like Microsoft_Word's text-based RTF word processing exchange format.
