Nova Petrópolis

Nova Petrópolis is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. The main town and seat of the municipality is also called Nova Petrópolis. It is about 100 km north of Porto Alegre, the state capital, in the Serra Gaucha. The population is around 18,000 people and most are of German origin. The German language is still widely spoken in the municipality. Dairy farming and shoemaking are the major economic activities in the municipality.
