Nok

The Nok was the first known iron-smelting civilization in Africa, and the first known art-producing civilization in sub-saharan Africa. Little is known about the Nok, but radiocarbon analysis dates Nok artifacts between 500 B.C. and 200 A.D.

The word Nok itself is a modern invention, the name of the Nigerian town in which, in 1928, the civilization's remains were first discovered.

NOK is also an abbreviation for the Norwegian krone.
