Noelrock

Noelrock was a branching out of the Britpop movement. As the Manchester band Oasis rose to superstardom in the mid-1990's, many bands began copying the Oasis formula by creating soaring ballads that often contained nonsensical verses around a universal chorus. Many critics dubbed this "Noelrock" after Noel Gallagher, Oasis's chief songwriter. Populist in nature, it was somewhat of a turn from the earlier anglocentric standard set by Blur.
