Nityananda

Lord Nityananda Prabhu is the brother of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu and He is an incarnation of Lord Balarama, the elder brother of Lord Sri Krishna. He closely follows Lord Caitanya and takes part in his sankirtan movement.

Lord Nityananda is very dear to Lord Caitanya. While the two of them were chanting Hare Krishna on the steets of Mayapur, they met two rogues called Jagai and Madhai. One of them threw an earthenware pot at Lord Nityananda and cut his forehead deeply. Lord Caitanya was very angry and was about to summon down his chakra (the Lord's celestial weapon) to kill them, when Lord Nityananda stopped him, saying "In this age of Kali, You are meant to kill the demons by the chanting of the Holy Name". Lord Caitanya then liberated Jagai and Madhai, and they became enthusiastic members of the Lord's sankirtan movement.
