Niggerati
Niggerati is another term for the black intelligentsia. It was used to describe the black authors and intellectuals that made up the Harlem Renaissance. The etymology seems to be a combination of "nigger" (a racial epithet for African Americans) and literati. The word was reportedly coined by Zora Neale Hurston, author of "Their Eyes Were Watching God". It is used predominantly by members of the African American literary community, and would be considered insulting if used by someone not of African descent.
