Negro Bill Canyon
(Redirected from Nigger Bill Canyon)
Negro Bill Canyon (fomerly called Nigger Bill Canyon) is a canyon in the southeast of Utah. It was named after William Granstaff, a black cowboy, who ran cattle in the desert canyon in the 1870s with a Canadian trapper named "Frenchy." Granstaff fled the area after being charged with bootlegging whiskey.
In 1979 the canyon was the scene for a row over public vehicle access, sometimes called the Sagebrush Rebellion.
