Niçard

Nicard (Nicois – French, Nissart – Nicard) is a distinct dialect of the Provencal language spoken in and around the city of Nice, or Nissa in Nicard, and the historical region Le Comté de Nice/Lou Coumtat de Nissa which is almost equivalent to the current French département of Alpes-Maritimes. However, most people of Nice and it's region do not speak Nicard and those who do are exclusively bilingual in French. Even so, the local television news are presented in Nicard (with French subtitles) and all the street signs in the old town of Nice are still written in this dialect. Lately there has been a revival in the use of Nicard and it is popularly studied at the University of Nice. The Nicard song Nissa La Bella is often regarded as the "national anthem" of Nice.
