Neurotically Yours
Neurotically Yours is a series of Flash cartoons depicting a squirrel named Foamy, who is the neurotic pet of a gothic girl named Germaine. The cartoons are mainly found on the Ill Will Press homepage, but are hosted on numerous sites such as Newgrounds.com.
Germaine is a misanthropic girl with purple hair. She normally wears "goth" clothing, which is generally quite skimpy for the majority of the cartoons (possibly as a fan service). She is also a member of the Wiccan faith.
Foamy is a loud-mouthed, obscene, fast-talking squirrel whose scathing and often expletive-ridden protests include (but are not limited to) the following:
- People who "try to be something they aren't".
- Marketing techniques used by certain coffee shop establishments (by use of a satirical coffee house known as "Star-Shmucks").
- The "Fat-kins" diet.
Other characters include Pilz-E (a squirrel whose insanity, paranoia and general hyperactivity can be attributed to taking too much medication), Begley (a squirrel from England with a punk haircut), and Leroy the Hatta (a black squirrel with a double standard for racist remarks). Pilz-E and Begley are both part of Foamy's personal cult, known as the "Foamy Card Cult" (FCC). In the episode titled "Inner Demons" Foamy created the "secret Foaminian Cult."
The show, despite having a legion of eager fans, has come under fire from time to time by people who consider the show to be selling out. These arguments are based on various hypocritical actions taken by the show's creator, Johnathan Ian Mathers (showing his disgust of people wishing to see Germaine naked and then showing her in more compromising positions, for example), the formulaic nature of each episode, the detraction away from humour in favour of extended rants and the general feeling critics have that the show is basically designed around shifting more Foamy products. The cartoon "Suggestion Box" was purposely voted 0 on Newgrounds.com by a multitude of people who disliked Foamy because of these reasons and possibly because the cartoons commonly feature a Flash animating technique called "Tweening" which is very easy to use and not very unique. "Suggestion Box" received the "Turd of the Week" award by these disgruntled voters but went on to get a respectable score.
Nevertheless, some of the episodes (mostly the earlier ones that were based more around skits) show genuine artistic value, and as well as raving reviews from the Neurotically Yours fanbase, requests have been made (and refused by the creator) to convert the series into a television program.
A new episode of Neurotically Yours is posted approximately every two weeks on Thursday.
