Features and Problems
Features and problems with NetAnts v1.25
Common features
- Download resuming
- Download splitting/acellerating (download many portions at once to speed up downloading (all from the same server:())
- Scheduling
- Automatic Dailing
Less Common features
- Follows Some redirects
- Allows Spoofing the user Agent
- Bandwith limiting (VERY handy When trying to surf while downloading)
Unique Features
- Zip file repair.
This feature deserves notice, though I've NEVER had a chance to test it. Netants included a CRC check for Zip Files, if a zip file failed the CRC after you downloaded it netants was smart enough to figure out WHERE that ment that the file was corrupted and redownloaded JUST that portion of the zip file to repair it. Again I NEVER had a chance to test this so maybe it didn't work as advertised, but if it did (and I can't see why not) that was cool and unique.
Annoyances
- Does not work with Mozilla Firefox.
- It will not download from servers that won't tell it the size of the file (See the FAQ on the netants page relating to "The actual size of downloading file is unknown").
- NetAnts Hasn't been updated in "Forever" (err Years).
- Includes Spyware (http://cexx.org/dummies.htm has help for that).
- Downloading using mirrors is not supported.
