Neophyte

In general, a neophyte is a novice or beginner

In Warhammer 40,000 a Neophyte is a Space Marine in training. It is the second stage after a Potential. In the Neophyte stage, implantation, psycho-conditioning, and physical training begin. Each step in this stage has its own dangers, ensuring that only the truly worthy become Space Marines. After several years of training, conditioning, and surgeries the Neophyte becomes an Iniate, undertakes his Rites of Fire, and joins the other Brother-Marines in the ranks.
