Nawal El Saadawi
Nawal El Saadawi (Arabic Nawal al-Sa3dâwi) (born October 27, 1931) is an Egyptian feminist writer and activist. She has written many books on the subject of the plight of women in Abrahamic religions.
At a young age, Saadawi was the victim of female genital mutilation.
In September of 1981, Saadawi was imprisoned along with many other objectors to the Jerusalem Peace Treaty by President Anwar al-Sadat. She was released one month after his assassination.
In the early 1990s, Ms. Saadawi moved from Egypt to North Carolina in the United States. She has since moved back to Egypt. She continues her activism and even plans on running for the Egyptian Presidency soon.
