Narecnitsi

Narecnitsa, pl. Narecnitsi were Slavic fate-fairies, sorceresses who appear around newly born children and foretell their fate.

Their name comes from Old-Bulgarian reca, nareca – to tell, to foretell, to set aside.

They are an often met character in Bulgarian (South-Slavic) folklore, especially in the Heroic epos – the legends about Krali Marko, despot Vulkashin, Momchil Yunak, etc.
