Nardwuar the Human Serviette

(Redirected from Nardwuar)

Nardwuar the Human Serviette (born John Ruskin, July 5, 1968) is a Canadian celebrity interviewer and musician from Vancouver, British Columbia.

Nardwuar's interviews are frequently shown on MuchMusic, or printed in Chart. He is known for researching obscure trivia about his interview subjects, which is often an annoyance to them but is often also praised. His interviewing style can be quite grating to those who have had no prior experience with him; for example, Sum 41 began pelting him with food, and on other occasions he has been threatened with violence.

A typical interview will begin with "Who are you?", even if he is talking to a world-famous celebrity. Interviews always end with "Keep on rockin' in the free world, and doot-doodle-oo-doot...", to which the interviewee must respond "doot doot!" before Nardwuar will let them go.

Nardwuar is also a "guerrilla journalist", often sneaking in to press conferences to confront political leaders or other individuals. On one occasion he asked Mikhail Gorbachev which world leader had the biggest pants. On another infamous occasion in November of 1997, he cut off all his hair and was able to sneak into an APEC conference to ask Jean Chrétien if he supported the pepper spraying of protestors outside. Chrétien, either not understanding or being purposefully flippant, responded, "For me, pepper, I put it on my plate."

In July 1999 he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, but recovered after surgery. Nardwuar is also the singer for the band The Evaporators.
